COLLECTION I

IRIDESCENT

THE MANNEKINS is a limited collection of contemporary sculptural objects dedicated to figures whose ideas, works, and cultural presence have influenced our understanding of art, literature, cinema, music, philosophy, and history.

Each bust is an original artistic interpretation created by designer and visual artist Antonio de Santos. Rather than attempting to reproduce an official portrait, the sculptures reinterpret the character, intellectual presence, contradictions, and cultural significance of each figure through an independent sculptural language.

The project approaches portraiture as an act of interpretation. A face is not treated merely as a physical likeness, but as a space in which memory, biography, imagination, and cultural history converge. Through form, gesture, texture, and colour, each sculpture seeks to evoke something of the subject’s intellectual or artistic universe.

The Mannekins are not traditional portraits. They are interpretations.

The figures represented in THE MANNEKINS are selected because of the importance of their work and the cultural conversations they continue to inspire. The sculptures are conceived as tributes to that legacy. They do not attempt to replace, reproduce, or appropriate the original works of the individuals portrayed. Instead, they invite the viewer to rediscover these personalities from a contemporary perspective.

Produced in limited quantities, every object is created in a distinctive holographic Pop Art format. Iridescent surfaces transform according to light and perspective, shifting between deep blues, violet reflections, metallic tones, and unexpected flashes of colour. This visual instability reflects the way cultural memory itself changes over time: every generation encounters historical figures differently and creates new interpretations of their meaning.

The holographic finish places these busts within the visual language of contemporary art and collectible design. Historical memory is brought into contact with digital aesthetics, experimental materials, and modern production technologies. The result is neither a traditional monument nor conventional memorabilia, but a contemporary artefact situated between sculpture, design, cultural archive, and Pop Art.

Each piece is designed as part of a coherent and limited modern art collection. Although every sculpture possesses its own identity, the works are intended to exist in dialogue with one another, creating an evolving constellation of writers, artists, filmmakers, thinkers, musicians, and historical personalities.

The Art of Remembering

THE MANNEKINS is an independent artistic project. It is not official merchandise and does not imply sponsorship, approval, endorsement, or affiliation with the individuals represented, their estates, institutions, publishers, foundations, brands, or other rights holders.

The project does not claim ownership of the names, identities, images, writings, music, films, trademarks, or pre-existing works associated with the represented figures. All such rights remain with their respective lawful owners. THE MANNEKINS claims authorship only over its original sculptural designs, artistic compositions, photographs, texts, and the distinctive visual interpretation developed for the collection.

By openly acknowledging these distinctions, the project seeks to approach cultural legacy with respect. Its purpose is not to exploit or diminish the work of the personalities represented, but to recognise their continuing intellectual and cultural value through an original form of contemporary artistic expression.

THE MANNEKINS are not traditional portraits.

They are interpretations.

They are limited objects of memory, transformed through colour, light, technology, and imagination.

THE MANNEKINS does not recreate the past.

It reinterprets the memory of those who shaped it.

The Journey Continues

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES

The Mannekins is only beginning.

Future collections will introduce new themes, new personalities, and new visual universes.

Each collection will reveal another chapter.

Each Mannekin will preserve another story.
