DESCRIPTION
Two Nobel Prizes, in two different sciences — still the only person to have managed it. She isolated polonium and radium by processing tonnes of pitchblende in a shed with no ventilation, became the first woman to teach at the Sorbonne, and ran mobile radiography units at the front during the First World War.
The work killed her. Her notebooks are still radioactive and are kept in lead-lined boxes, which may be the most literal case on record of a life leaving a measurable trace.
Printed to order in holographic silk PLA, 15 cm tall. The iridescence shifts with light and viewing angle, and no two pieces come out identical — filament variation and the printing process itself see to that. Made in France, dispatched in 2-5 business days.
The image shown is a digital visualization of the artwork; a 360° view of an actual printed sculpture is available on the site. An original artistic interpretation by designer and visual artist Antonio de Santos, not affiliated with or endorsed by the subject or their estate.
